A really good book and well worth buying
One of the things I really like about this book is the way it carefully leads you step by step through all the stages you need to change your photographs into fantastic artistic images. Its a large subject but the book manages to successfully cover it all in an interesting and imaginative way, I found it well written and very informative.
The book is broken down into 13 sections and covers just about everything a digital photographer could wish to know, the breadth & depth of the book is just excellent. The individual sections are: The Next Level, Scanner and Camera Techniques, Processing Raw Files, Photo Organisation and Management, Pathways to Editing in Elements, Images Changes .. Beyond the Basics, Darkroom Techniques on the Doorstep, Professional Retouching, Photo Restoration, Making Better Panoramas, Extending Your Web Abilities, Free Form Photo Collages and Finely Crafted Output.
Within each chapter numerous techniques are explained in detail. The instructions are easy to follow and are accompanied by numerous colour images which make it a great learning aid, in addition there is a website where you can download the images used for each chapter. The website also has a series of 19 Video Tutorials available for PSE6 and these Video are a real bonus for users.
He has a nice style of writing which kept my interest and I found that it suited me well. It is a great book and well worth getting.
Advanced Photoshop Elements 6 for Digital Photographers
This is an excellent book, which is a fully comprehensive guide to Photoshop 6 for more advanced photographers, who want to push Elements to the limit. The sections are clearly laid out and easy to read, with plenty of tips and additional information. The illustrations are excellent and easy to follow. I have been a professional photographer for 9 years, using Photoshop on a daily basis, yet this book has taught me so much, and I am still learning from it. Highly Recommended.
Very useful intermediate to advanced guide to Elements
Written by the same author as 'Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 - A visual introduction', but covering more advanced topics as the name suggests.
The book starts with some basic concepts of digital imaging and leads on to some pretty complex projects which can be undertaken in Elements.
At the moment, it's firmly based around Windows version - all the screenshots and keyboard shortcuts refer to this and there's no indication of any proposed updates when the Macintosh version is released later this month - as a user of the beta version of the software I didn't find it difficult to navigate the menus and tools.
However, it's not restricted to users of v6 - each process has indicators showing which versions of Elements it can be applied to and they could equally be applied to Photoshop CS3.
It's written in an easy style to read - I found even the most complex of projects pretty simple to follow. However, no CD is provided as with his other book - not a major issue, but sometimes seeing a process in a video is helpful. Resources in the form of the images used in many of the chapters are available from the book's dedicated website along with some videos, but these are not particularly related to the contents of the book.
Good layout with clear graphics, before and after shots and staged walk-throughs.
The book is split into sections which are easy to navigate via a comprehensive contents page and index. A good book for dipping into when you need to figure out how to do digital hand colouring!
The sections dealing with colour management were particularly useful as this is a concept I've always
struggled with
