DVD Description
The multi-award winning Al Murray – The Pub Landlord brings a brand new live show to DVD, direct from his sell-out 2009 national tour performed in front of more than 250,000 people.
'The way he integrates the crowd into the show is awe-inspiring' The Times
Recorded at The Guv’s biggest lock-in to date at London’s O2 Arena, the nation's favourite pub landlord will once again raise a glass at home with you - the beautiful British public - whilst he merrily muses over a heady brew of topics including: the global financial crisis, London 2012, and his one man crusade to fix Broken Britain. As one of the UK’s premier stand-up comedians, and a prime-time star of ITV1, Al Murray – The Pub Landlord is ‘one national treasure to cherish’ Daily Telegraph.
'Actually deserves the tag genius' The Sun
'His interaction with the front few rows is legendary… thoroughly recommended. Five stars.' The Sun (27/11/09)
Customer Reviews
Al Murray at his best!
Saw Al Murray live on the Friday night at the O2 and it was brilliant! It was filmed over the Friday and Saturday night and I haven't laughed as much in my life!
Having seen him do Al Murray's happy hour on ITV live was great but no where near as good as this. For over 2 hours, he thoughly entertained me. If you love Al Murray - you'll love this. A variety brew of topics including: the credit crunch, London 2012, and his one man crusade to fix Broken Britain, you'll end up with one big smile on your face!
If this is half as good as it was live - It'll be well worth owning it and I would recommend buying it!!!
Too long and slow-paced
Murray seems to be a bit overwhelmed by the size of the crowd and goes into automatic pilot poking fun at the front row for far too long. Compared to his usual approach, it was like a drunk labouring the same old jokes until you stopped laughing and began cringing. The close ups of the victims showed that for several of them and their companions that things had gone beyond a gag. Once he got into his scripted act things were better, but the material was spread a little too thin. This is not to say that the DVD doesn't have some great moments, but you've got to wait pateiently for them to arrive. Whether it's the case that stand-up doesn't really work in such vast arenas, I know not? What I do know is that the show has to be faster paced than this to really hit the spot.
Longwinded & boring
As someone who has bought and enjoyed in the main Al Murray's previous offerings I have to say this left me disappointed,Al Murray now has a tendancy to labour the point much more so than previously in fact it's downright boring in places, so much so that I nearly gave up and turned off on more than one occasion....Only for the real diehard pub landlord fans..................
