Synopsis
This book is a collaboration between VII Photo Agency, Doctors Without Borders and DMO. Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is an international independent medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural and man-made disasters, and exclusion from health care in nearly 70 countries. VII Photo Agency was designed from the outset to be an efficient, technologically enabled distribution hub for some of the world's finest photojournalism, VII has been responsible for creating and relaying to the world many of the images that define the turbulent opening years of the 21st century. The death toll from the conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is the highest ever attributed to war in Africa or indeed, anywhere in the world since World War II. Almost 4 million deaths have occurred in the past five years. Aid agencies say that violence, war-related hunger and disease continue to kill 1,000 people every day. The conflict, fueled by mining for gold and minerals used for cell phones and computers, continues each day.

VII photographers have documented the humanitarian crisis in eastern Congo and the response by the international community and MSF (Doctors Without Borders) in color and black-and-white essays.
