A boy in a woman's world

Peach blossom crumbles on her cheek
she wipes away a tear fallen free from nowhere
her skin remembers fingers' touch
each night rebounds behind her dusk red lids
as mind replays the scenes of yesterday.

She wasn't anybody's fool,
her language tipped your dreams with mythic castles
he really wasn't all that cool
just a lonely path along a four lane highway.

He filled a void she'd never owned
promised strength that echoed with normality
a clean cut world that purred with perfect edges;
she knew he'd never keep his word
but gave him leave to leave without formality.

Now she's brushing petals from her cold white lips
relicking empty spaces that she's kissed
burns the ashes of what she would have missed
if she'd bought a one way ticket to his reality.

She isn't anybody's fool
her laughter lights the world with mythic fantasy
he really wasn't all that cool
just a lonely path along a four lane highway.
