Good pictures deserve a good frame
I spent quite a bit on my Digital camera and ended up buying an SLR model because I wanted great picture quality. The images looked great on my PC but I wanted a photo frame that would show them to their best effect. I chose the Agfaphoto AF5080M mainly for its high resolution screen 800 x 600 Mpixels. This, combined with the 3:4 format gives fantastic image quality. The pictures are really sharp and good to view even from an angle. The 128MB internal memory means I can load up virtually as many images as I want, even at high res sizes so no need to plug in the memory card to show off my pics. The AF5080M frame also has built in speakers and will play music and movie files. The movie function is particularly good because of the great screen and image quality. Theres a handy remote control as well. All in all, a well thought out product and although the the price was little higher than some other frames I looked at, it was worth it to see my pics displayed as they should be.
Generally good...
On the plus side - it's 4:3, which is closer to most digital camera output than 16:9 frames. That's why I got one. The picture quality is good - but I don't have a bunch of others to put it up against. It's reasonably easy to use. didn't really need the manual. On the minus side, the 'slow' slide show changes every 5 seconds which is way too fast. You can slow it down by making it display several copies of the same file (credit to my son for that idea) but that's a bit limited by only 128MB of memory. It takes SDHC cards, so it's easy & cheap to add more bytes.
So far So good
Since I bought my first Digital frame I have developed a craving for them. I do art and photography, so photos are very important to me, and I like to have the best regardless of the prize. I bought 3 different frames, all HiRez before I bought this one.The reason I got this was that it was the only one that displayed 4x3 and was HiRez. My other frames where excellent in all aspects so I was hopping this matched their picture quality and functionality.
I only have had it for few hours. It has 3 interchangeable frames which are good but not that good. I like the stand. It can be angled to suit your viewing angle. Other frames don't have that, specially the glossy ones which have problem with reflection. The connection are well place and discrete. It has a acceptable frame size to photo, I prefer smaller frame ratio to photo, e.g. Sony's. The picture is very good, but not as good as my other too. It has its own character, so cannot fault it. The price is just right for the quality.
The sound is better than I expected. With headphone is much better. I play few mpg files and there was no difference between the playability and image quality on that and my PC.
Now the negative:
I find the chrome outer and inner rims are very annoying and spoils the overall look of the frame. They should have used a dark grey or black plastic.
The remote is does not respond quickly enough. I found that pointing it at an angle to the base of the frame makes it respond better. The menus is also not very intuitive and need getting use to. Very frustrating.
I also found that I could not set the time laps to any specific number of seconds. It only gave me three options. The slowest one was only 5 seconds, too fast. I don't know why they did that. It is one of the most important function of the frame. They should have put more thoughts into that to get it right.
The fading effect is rubbish. The Sony frames do it perfectly. You spend more time watching the fading than the photo itself.
And lastly, the calendar is awful. It is acceptable by I expected the designers could have come up with something extraordinary. After all the calendar is viewed constantly so it should advertise the frame for its quality. What also bothered me which I think has escaped the engineers was, the calender should be dynamic, i.e. it should change at least slightly so the constant image does not burn itself into the picture. They could have done that by shifting the image slightly or have several designs that changed constantly. Also today's number does not stand out.
As I said I got this for the frame ratio. And its good enough. But there are better frames out there.
