"The Hits Revisited"
As the first reviewer rightly notes, these are not the original 1950s versions. They were recorded in 1982 when the Dutch "Arcade" record company approached Guy Mitchell & Frankie Laine to re-record some of their old hits for album release. They both did well with Guy Mitchell's disc getting to the no. two spot on the Dutch best selling albums list. These re-recordings have been issued many, many times over the years. Most re-issues give no indication that they are re-recordings. However, it is easy to spot them by the inclusion of the titles "Side by Side" & "Music!Music!Music!" Quite why these titles were used is a puzzle as neither were former recordings by Guy Mitchell & this was the first time he had ever recorded them! Sometimes these recordings are issued minus these two tracks when it is difficult to know which versions the disc contains. One way is to check the "small print" to see if it says the tracks have been licenced from Sony. If it does not say this then chances are they are NOT the originals. The stereo sound is good but the backing (when compared to the originals) is a bit on the thin side. Guy's voice is still recognisable considering he made these recordings after years of being in retirement & at the age of 55. However, it must be said that his voice had, understandbly, by this time lost the famous lilt it used to have. If you are a "completist" collector this is a useful addition.
Great songs redone in stereo.
This contains good stereo recordings of his hits.
The problem is that they are NOT the original hits, but re-recordings from the 1970's.(The labelling doesn't warn you of this fact.)
Also, his UK number one "Look At That Girl" is missing.
So, for all his original hits, buy Columbia's Best of Guy Mitchell instead.
