CD Description
On its third album, Wishbone Ash doesn't mess with its formula--as before, this long running British rock institution purveys a mix of blues, folk, and Yes- style riffs mated to endearingly cosmic lyrics. The songs here, however, are considerably more focused and well crafted than on the band's previous efforts, and the harmony singing is delightful.
As always, the band's basis is the tag team guitars of Andy Powell and Ted Turner. Fans of this duo's mix of Yardbirds- andAllman Brothers- style harmony licks and dueling solos willfind much to admire here, particularly "The King Will Come"and "Time Was", a folk-ish epic in several contrasting sections. All in all, ARGUS is one of the best guitar albums of the early '70s.

One of the great rock albums
Ever heard of Wishbone Ash ? I hadn't a few years back and someone suggested that this album was a classic. I bought a ropey vinyl copy of the album and there is stayed on my record player for weeks...
The album features the twin guitars of Ted Turner and Andy Powell and this is much in evidence on 'Time was' the albums opener which starts off quitely enough but then explodes. 'Sometime World' is probably my least favourite track but that doesn't mean it's bad ! 'Blowin free' is the track you'd probably recognise if you heard it on the radio; a touch of Status Quo here methinks but a great song.
What was side two on the album kicks off with 'The King will come' with more guitar duets much in evidence. 'Leaf and stream' is an acoustic calm before the storm leading to the albums closing tracks 'Warrior' and 'Throw down the sword', the latter being just superb.
There it is, can't wait to get the remastered cd version with some earlier live cuts and missing the previous bonus track 'No easy road' which really didn't fit on the album.
Subsequent albums never quite captured the magic although they had their moments.
Buy it...

Air Guitars Delight
Argus can answer the long debated question, which album generated the art of air guitars? This has to be the one, don't it? What guitar playing, bloody fantastic, this was the first album I ever bought. This was the album that first made me pick up my tennis racket...............heaven.
The only down side to this Argus version is the extra track No Easy Road, He-Hoy, I have both versions so I can listen to how it should be and if I am in the mood for the extra uninspired track I have that option also. This CD has most of the brilliant classic Wishbone Ashes best bits. Time Was, The King Will Come, Warrior, Throw Down The Sword and if you want to reflect on things then you have Leaf And Stream. Sometime World and Blowin' Free make up the original album, of course not in that order.
Powell, Upton and the Turners have never been able to better this album. So pick up your sword or your air guitar and play away to your hearts content.
A truly brilliant album... Buy it
Last summer my band and i were practicing at our guitarist's house, working on a new song i had written with a duel guitar riff, when his mother came in and commented on how much it sounded like Wishbone Ash. Who? Wishbone Ash. Being only 15 at the time i had not heard of them, and so she lent me Argus. Immediately after hearing it I got myself a copy and have since found it difficult to find an album that betters it. From the superb opening of 'Time Was' I was hooked. An album of consistency on every track; brilliant vocals, outstanding guitars, great drumming and some fantasic bass playing (check out 'Sometime World' to see what i mean).
This is Rock at it's best. BUT BUY BUY!!!
