Editorial Reviews

CD Description
As longtime fans of the band know, Luna is all about atmosphere. Frontman Dean Wareham writes strummy, foursquare rock that relies less on melody than mood, texture, and the delicious interplay between Wareham and Sean Eden's glimmering guitars. On the group's final album, this interplay is evidenced even more dramatically, as Luna recorded all of the songslive in the studio.
On first listen, RENDEZVOUS sounds like a seamless continuation of Luna's much-lauded earlier works, but soon the nuances emerge. Guitarist Eden steps forward for the first time as a stellar writer and vocalist on the sweet "Broken Chair" (featuring an aching lead guitar partworthy of David Bowie six-stringer Mick Ronson) and "Still at Home". On "Star-Spangled Man", Eden and Wareham make likeRichard Lloyd and Tom Verlaine (of Television) with airy guitar lines that never quite touch each other or the ground. "Buffalo Boots", with its insouciant spoken/sung vocals and exuberant instrumental hook, is one of the most joyous songsof Luna's career. That the band has ended its run on such ahigh note practically ensures good things for the next lunar phase.

Luna's Swansong5
This is a worthy swansong from one of the greatest bands of the nineties, and it is also one of their strongest albums ever. This is Luna in their purest form. Great songs, great lyrics, great guitar work. "Speedbumps" is probably my favorite song of this year. To bad this is their last.

Gossamer silky guitars5
Seems that this will be the last album from the Dean Wareham led outfit. From the evidence of this album that's a great pity as this is probably the most consistent and inspired album from a already decent body of work. Dual lead guitars intertwine, melodies soar and satisfaction is mine. Highly recommended to all fans of Tom Verlaine/Richard Lloyd and Television.
