Editorial Reviews
CD Description
Originally released in 1980 on Stiff Records, 'Crazy Rhythms' is the debut album from post-punk band The Feelies. Formed in 1976, the group had a major influence over the new wavemovement and beyond; with REM amongst others citing them asan important influence. With a musical landscape that is sparse and thoughtful at times and vibrantly raucous when necessary, 'Crazy Rhythms' is a superb addition to Domino Records' repertoire - particularly in its all-new remastered form.
Customer Reviews
Oh so nervy...
The Feelies are one of the US indie scene's great enigmas. They've never made enough records, and 'Crazy Rhythms' was their debut album from the early 80s, originally licensed to the Stiff Records label over here. They obviously owed a substantial debt to The Velvet Underground, but instead of the Velvet's usage of hard narcotics, The Feelies sounded like they just drank gallons of high octane coffee. Their sound was edgy and guitar-jangly, and I think that the drummer had a concept of not using cymbals - only the hi-hat. Anyway, their sound was somewhat out of kilter with the synth dominated pop of the time, and as a result, sounds more relevant today than ever. Domino have done a good job on this reissue - packaging wise and sonically it looks and sounds fresh. Well worth the outlay, plus you get download only bonuses. A minor classic.
