Synopsis
In the third HALLOWEEN installment (which has nothing to do with the first two films), a mad warlock hatches an evil plot to enact bloody mass murder. He creates creepy masks which force the wearer to commit violent acts of assassination on the night of Halloween.
From the Back Cover
Halloween 3 is set in the small California town of Santa Mira: home fo the Silver Shamrock Company, whose T.V. advertisement for its Halloween masks has been almost impossible to avoid in the run-up to October 31st. With its hypnotic refrain of "Two more days ‘til Halloween, Halloween, Halloween…" sung to the tune of "London Bridge Is Falling Down," the commercial has the children of America hooked, with Silver Shamrock’s masks selling like hotcakes.
All is not as it seems however, as Silver Shamrock’s owner Conal Cochran (Dan O’Herlihy) is hatching a potentially devastating plot for Halloween night, and it’s up to local Doctor, Dan Challis (Tom Atkins) to uncover the truth about Silver Shamrock, Cochran, and The Season Of The Witch!
The only Halloween film not to feature the murderous Michael Myers, with hindsight, Season Of The Witch is perhaps the most original and inventive entry in the series since the first film. Over the years it has garnered something of a cult reputation among horror film fans, and it marks Debra Hill and John Carpenter’s final involvement with the successful franchise they had created four years earlier.
Customer Reviews
The best sequel of the series
Unfortunately due to the fact that a lot of immature, wingeing, fanboys slated this film at the time of release and have done since becuase there's no michael myers, people think it's a bad film before they view it. This is simply not the case. It's about an irish toymaker who runs a factory in California and is planning a devilish trick or treat for the children of America. It kept me on the edge of my seat and the tension was high. I didn't expect much after the dismal failure of Halloween II but I was pleasantly surprised. I recommend to anyone who loves a good 80s horror!
Very Very underrated movie!
I think that a lot of people write H3 off immediatley simply on the basis that it does not feature Michael Myers (I am ashamed to admit that I was once guilty of this crime myself), however, upon re-watching this movie as a movie in it's own right and not as a Halloween sequel I can strongly say that it is a brilliant and highly entertaining horror movie, here's why:
The plot in H3 is original and interesting - A deranged halloween mask maker is using rock from Stone Henge to make lethal masks that will kill thousands of children on halloween night (a very taboo subject that I admire H3 for tackling), the atmosphere is seriously creepy and mysterious (John Carpenters musical score really contributes to this) and the action is gory and even shocking at times, the scene where a badge from one of the masks blasts an unlucky woman in the face really caught me off guard the first time I saw it (I had the TV on louder than I thought.) There's something unsettling about the whole movie and I really enjoyed it as a result.
The acting is also of a high class with Tom Atkins leading the way, I'm a big fan of Tom's, the 80's wouldn't have been the same without him.
I really think that H3: Season of the witch deserves 5 stars, it is a great movie and though maybe not for everyone I definatley recommend it, just try and put the fact that you miss Michael aside, it took me a while but I managed it eventually and I'm glad I did. (watch out for his cameo appearance on TV)
Cut version
The Sanctuary DVD is missing some scenes thanks to the BBFC. These include an old man in a junk yard getting his head ripped off (resulting in a blood spraying) and an eye gouging near the end. If you want the Uncut version get the old MIA version. Seems they pulled a fast one releasing it uncut. Although the quality is like a vhs rental from the 80's
