Editorial Reviews
CD Description
Rossini specialist Joyce DiDonato has been described by the UK's Sunday Times as "the world’s reigning Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia". In July 2009 Joyce's profile rose significantly in the UK after she proved the show must go on at the Royal Opera House despite breaking a leg on the first night!
Customer Reviews
Does not disappoint
This disc was eagerly anticipated by ardent "Yankeediva" fans, particularly after the huge success of her Handel disc. And it does not disappoint. All the elements are in place: stunning coloratura, high artistry, superb musicianship. Don't expect DiDonato's signature Rosina or Cenerentola, however; here we have a wonderful selection from Rossini's "big girl" dramatic roles, including Desdemona and Armida, and DiDonato's next onstage role debut Elena ("La Donna del Lago"). One gets a taste of what will perhaps be this superb mezzo's future repertoire.
Inspired and virtuoso singing
Wonderful CD again - even better perhaps than Furore! Donato's Desdemona is particularly moving, and the areas from Semiramide and Armida are executed with amazing agility and style! Highly recommended CD
