Manufacturer's Description
Verbatim's 2-Disk RAID External Hard Drive has user selectable RAID options: BIG / RAID 0 or RAID 1. In RAID BIG mode, the full capacity is seen as 1 BIG Drive with 1 drive letter assigned to it. It fills up one of the hard disks before starting on the other one.

RAID 0 - Striping, offers improved Read/Write times. The full capacity is still seen as 1 drive letter, but the data is split equally across both of the drives.

RAID 1 - Mirroring, is great for data security. Each drive's content is duplicated, so there are two copies of the same data. The maximum capacity is that of one of the Hard Disks within the RAID drive. 1 drive letter is assigned to the drive.

Verbatim's eSATA / USB 2.0 Combo External Hard Drive provides high capacity storage back up for all file types offering high performance and reliability to both the professional and home user. It stores thousands of digital photos, videos, and other electronic files. Powered by a SATA high speed hard drive, the Verbatim eSATA 3Gbits / USB 2.0 Combo Drive provides ultra fast transfer speeds for the professional user. Up to 6 times faster than USB 2.0, eSATA 3Gbits saves you time and is ideal for high definition video, and audio applications.

Its stylish 'black steel' space saving design sits neatly on the modern desk top. The drive comes with a Verbatim 2 Year Warranty and Nero BackItUp 2 Essentials software providing full back up management for your PC/laptop* hard drive.

* Unfortunately Nero BackItUp 2 Essentials software is not compatible with Mac operating systems.

    Very nice RAID drive5
I would agree with the other reviewer. This drive has an air of quality about it. I have been very pleased. No fuss - it just works. It is quiet, nicely finished, and competitively priced.

Having just had to spend ages trying to discover what was wrong with a new Lacie 4BIG 6TB drive (avoid like the plague), I have reverted to this drive, and plan to buy more of them. They stack nicely too.

Very quick on eSata, but they have USB for those mobile trips dropping off footage. I would say they are suited to portable use too. I have a padded case for mine.

Yes, I would say that if you buy one of these you won't be disappointed.

Serious storage at a reasonable price5
After comparing several external drives on Amazon and having had previous failures with the Western Digital MyBook drives I decided on this one. From the minute you unpack it it feels like a very well made piece of kit.

All the optional software tools are included on the disk and it is setup and ready to go in the BIG mode (the computer sees it as one big virtual 1.87TB disk). Switching to RAID 0 or 1 is simple (its just a switch on the back - no software config required) and the drive comes with USB and eSATA cables. This is by no means a drive for carrying around with your laptop but would be an excellent addition to any home media centre.

    Problems with one off button3
The drive itself works fine but it's shallow button has problems on my unit. It sometimes gets stuck when switching on/off. On a couple of occasions I've turned off the drive - only to find it later on turns itself back on when the button unsticks itself. Thankfully so far its not switched itself off while powered on and in use otherwise data loss would occur.

Whether this is a design fault or a faulty unit I'm not too sure.

Other than the power button the unit actually works very well.
