This Movie and CD is the best thing she ever did.
Barbra spent a lot of time researching this movie. It was also made in loving memory of her father who died when she was very young. She always longed for a father figure in her life and during the making of this movie she always felt her father's presence. Musically this is my all time favourite album. Why not treat youself and buy the video as well then you will appreciate the music even more. The music begins with WHERE IS IT WRITTEN? here she is asking where is it written that women cannot learn about the talmet, Yentl is always asking questions and looking for answers. PAPA, CAN YOU HEAR ME is a very emotional and loving song and I'm sure any father would love it sung to them. THIS IS ONE OF THOSE MOMENTS, here she is singing about the moment she first meets Avigdor and falls in love with him. NO WONDER, is about Avigdor and his girlfreind in the movie called Hadass: No wonder he loves her, she is everything that Yentl is not. THE WAY HE MAKES ME FEEL, is how Yentl is feeling about Avigdor she really loves him but cannot let her feeling be known. NO WONDER (part Two) here she talking about how wonderful Hadass is and who could dispute anything this girl does because she looks perfect and everything she does is perfect. TOMORROW NIGHT, crazy as it sounds this is now the wedding night of Yentl and Hadass, here Yentl is wondering how she got herself into this situation cause tomorrow night she will be married. WILL SOMEONE EVER LOOK AT ME THAT WAY? Even though Yentl is married to Hadass, Avigdor still looks lovingly at Hadass and Yentl wonder will someone ever look at her in the same loving way. NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS Yentl has decided to tell Avigdor that she is really a girl and that she loves him. NO WONDER (Reprise) Yentl takes another look at Hadass and realises that she too can be like Hadass.A PIECE OF SKY This is my ultimate all time favourite song that Streisand has ever sang, this is the last song in the movie, what a climax buy the CD and you will understand what I am talking about.
a spectacular performance-and only 'she' can do it.
This moving album, sung beautifully and meaningfully should take pride of place in your Barbra Streisand collection. Something for everyone. 'Pa Pa can you hear me' will pull on your heartstrings. The performance of this song and all in this album is too spectacular for words.
Great Film
This film will appeal to all women. (and some husbands) It says a lot.
The music and song is wonderful.
A DVD I wiil keep in my library. I was given the LP in the 70's by my daughter. She had no idea what it meant to me. Have replaced all now. It still sounds great and means the same to me.
Great film and great soundtrack. So is 'Fiddler on the Roof'
