There are no up-tempo songs to be found on this, Barbra's second number one album. The record consists entirely of ballads, and no one does a ballad like Barbra. Each song is masterfully performed, with the vocals taking the listener to a warm, soothing place. That's not to say that all ballads have to be the yearnings of a co-dependent soul, as "Being At War With Each Other" expresses the anger one can feel in a relationship. "Something So Right" is a groove-laden tune thatserves as an interlude to "The Best Thing You've Ever Done"which is a Broadway-like number full of violins, horns, anda note that's held for what seems like an eternity.
The title track is a classic love song with a melancholy feel, and it garnered an Oscar and Grammy. This is followed by two extraordinary ballads: the wonderfully arranged "All In LoveIs Fair", and "What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life?", which was originally released in 1969 and is everything a ballad should be. Streisand's performance of "I've Never Been A Woman Before" is simply goosebump-producing. The album concludes with a medley: the jazzy "My Buddy" and "How About Me".

Barbra Excellence!
This album is by far one of the best she's ever made. It clearly exemplifies Barbra's never weaning demand for beauty, creativity, and... excellence. Hearing this album explains why she is second in the all-time charts, with forty-five gold albums (ahead of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, exceeded only by Elvis).
In my opinion this album contains some of the best songs she's ever sung. 'Being at war with each other' is a beautiful, captivating song while 'The Best Thing you've ever Done' is one of the greatest examples of how Barbra's emotionally expressive voice can deliver irony so beautifully.
The Way We Were and What are you Doing the Rest of Your Life? may be two of the most enchanting songs ever sung, displaying Barbra's beauty magnificently!
Certainly this is a must-have album, whether or not you're an avid Barbra Streisand fan!
