Amazon.co.uk Review
Barbra Streisand's fifth television special, Barbra Streisand and Other Musical Instruments (November 2, 1973), returns to the concept-show format. Streisand takes her place among the symphony orchestra members sporting her own instrument: her voice. One medley groups a number of favorite songs but in "international" settings, such as "People" accompanied by sitar and "Don't Rain on My Parade" by bagpipe band, and Streisand changes costumes to match. Ray Charles is on hand for four songs in the second set, then Streisand returns to the orchestra to sing such songs as "On a Clear Day" and "The Sweetest Sounds." --David Horiuchi
Synopsis
A real treat for Barbra Streisand fans, this 1973 television special features the singer performing in a wide range of elaborate costumes and roles. Songs include 'I Got Rhythm', 'The World Is a Concerto', 'Sweet Inspiration', 'The Sweetest Sounds' and even a duet with Ray Charles.

Could have been better?
They don't make shows like this any longer, and I'm not sure whether I like it or not, However this is a wonderful show and I really like the 17 minutes medley of Streisand hits in other versions, not to mention the note at the end she seems to hold forever. What I don't like is that the sound is not so good. On the cover it says DD 5.1. But there surely is no surround sound, not even real stereo sound. I think the stereo effect and 5.1 have been created from the original mono sound instead of using the multitrack masters that must exist somewhere or at least the stereo mix that is released on a CD.

Barbra Streisand...and Other Musical Instruments
This is a particularly rare copy of an album recorded many years ago that has been deleted from all UK music catalogues and one that I have been chasing for over 20 years.
Don't expect Streisand to be singing her usual show stopping numbers. It's particularly unusual in her choice of music and the manner in which she renders them. A truly remarkable voice that compares with any instrument of the orchestra and not to be missed for the Streisand fan to complete their collection.
