Synopsis
A reference guide to the array of obscure grape varieties and innumerable growers in central and southern Italy, this title makes clear the complex subject of Italian wine. Complementing Belfrage's previous title "Barolo to Valpolicella", "Brunello to Zibibbo" covers all of the districts in detail, from Tuscany to Sardinia and the top producers and their wines, from Chiantis to the sweet whites of Lipari. It features contemporary information about Italy's wine laws and the fashionable "Super Tuscan" wines that operate outside the rules, in addition to a critical look at viticulture and winemaking in the 21st century. The author also argues the case for making changes to the existing wine laws whilst explaining the diversity of the vineyard area, and plethora of indigenous and international grape varieties.
Customer Reviews
In a nutshell
The regions covered by this book are extensive with a huge variety of styles and quality. This book is a really good overview - which would be of great assistance to anyone taking a Diploma in wine or has an interest in particularly Italian wines. The book does cover a number of producers and is well written and clear. I would recommend this book.
