An Eagerly Awaited Debut Album5
I'd first heard of Laura Michelle Kelly via the 'West End Musical Scene'. She was the original Mary Poppins, and after hearing her sing live in the show - well her voice is kind of angelic. I presumed that her first album would see LMK belting out some west end musical numbers but I was very wrong. This album has some wonderful original songs on it such as There Was A Time, The Storm Inside and an absolutely beautiful ballad called Butterflies. There are a few 'cover' versions but they don't sound like your average cover as you have to check the sleeve notes to be sure. Nick Drake's 'Riverman'; Bacharach's 'Reach Out' and Paul Weller's 'You Do Something To Me' will send a little shiver down the old spine.

As for west end musical songs, Laura Michelle does'nt disappoint as again 'covers' but not in the traditional sense, Stephen Sondheim's 'Losing My Mind'. It's an album full of beautiful arrangements and the voice of an angel (a real one as opposed to the so called 'Crazy Chick').

It's Practically Perfect in Every Way..... (sorry, couldn't resist typing that in!)

Great voice, easy to listen to5
Laura Michelle Kelly is a great artist. The background music is so good i have to give her a 5 star. My favourite songs on this album are "The Storm Inside" & "There Was A Time" Other songs are still great but these are very good indeed. A great album and highly recommended. Buy Now!

sweet voice5
I read a review of this album in the papers and checked it out in my local store.Wow!!!I love Nick Drakes 'Riverman' and never imagined it could be bettered... it hasn't,but...she's definitely matched it!!The original is so wistfully melancholic whereas Lauras version evokes a sense of hope..its fab!
As for the cover of Keanes 'Somewhere only we know' well...its pure musical theatre! You could easily see this performed as a show stopper on stage or film for that matter! Its superb and far far better than the original.I play it all the time...the orchestration is outstanding.
The Paul Wellar cover'You do something to me' is again a spot of genius!Whoever wrote the orchestration should be given a noble prize for services to music!Ok..a bit OTT but it really adds something special to the song!
Reach Out is fantastic...very uplifting and the choral section is imaginative!
The original songs are excellent too...the title track is epic! You can see Divine Comedy's Neil Hannons touch there!
Overall...the best album of 2006 so far!She should get a lot more recognition and hope to heaven she does a tour!!
