Customer Reviews
Disappointing and non inspirational.
I had seen Alwyn Crawshaw's tv programmes and learnt something about using watercolour from them. Unfortunately, this book didn't help me get into oils at all. The exercises were just plain boring and uninspiring. I like this artist's style, it's quite expressive, but don't like his teaching methods.
Alwyn Crawshaw's oil painting course.
I had no idea what to buy or how to start. Never worked with oils before I needed to know the brush techniques, how to mix the colours, which brushes to buy etc. This book gave all that information in detail, with simple exercises showing how to simplify what you are painting, like water and clouds. Also explains how to get the shade in a picture, in fact lots more information in every day language. It has got me off to a good start, and i'm pleased with the results, money well spent buying this book.
