alwayn crawshaws brush with art
fantastic!!! not a lot more i can say really! bought it for my dads birthday, best present i ever bought. he's now a fantastic painter, all thanks to me, and crawshaw too!!! great video, hard to stop watching, really puts you in the mood
This was what I really needed
In this course Mr. Crawshaw explains in detail how to achieve watercolour results. I have never had a teacher, so my (little) skill in painting comes from studying books and experimenting. However, just reading can never replace a demonstration from a talented teacher. So I learned a lot from this course. My wife, who has studied oil painting in an art school, also learned a few things from this course. I can recommend this course to anyone who is a beginner or advanced beginner.
Not for absolute beginners
I have bought Crawshaw's "Complete Watercolour course" along with his " Sketching and drawing course" as well as his "Painting acrylics". The 3 DVD-sets where my first instruction-videos in this field, being, at the time, a total beginner. I was hoping, looking at the word "Complete" used in the titel, for some really basic and detailed instructions on the tricks of the trade and some examples to follow. Something like: " I have got two brushes, some watercolours and some paper. Show me, exactly, what to do". But this is not what you get. After watching all 30 programmes in the 3 DVD-sets, I was convinced that Crawshaw is a very skilled painter and draughtsman, who can produce some very nice pictures. But I had only a very vague idea og how he did it. There is very little instruction, you don't see what he is doing on the palet and nothing you can try to follow. What you get is footage of Crawshaw painting and talking in a nice scenery. And his catchphrase " Why don't you have a go, it's easier than you think" get's very annoying after a few programs, when you feel that you are getting absolutely nowhere in you own painting. The two stars I give it, is for the nice and relaxing atmosphere, not for the practical value. What really got me started was Frank Clarke's Simply Painting "Watercolour Paintbox" (3 DVD's)along with Clarke's Simply Painting 5-DVD box on mainly (7 out of 10 programmes) acrylics. He tells you exactly what to use and what to do. The results I instantly had was, although absolutely not masterpieces, surprisingly good. And it gave me the very satisfying feeling, that this is something even I can learn. Also the 5-DVD "Complete Drawing and Watercolour" box-set with Ian King, Ronald Swanwick et al, is highly recommended if you, like me, is starting from scratch.
