Customer Reviews
Golf Wales - a compendium of affectionate memories
A most timely promotion for Welsh golf. The writing about a favourite pastime in the country of my birth stirred many rich memories. The descriptions, the anecdotes, the photography as well as the practical commentary on food and lodging all combine to produce an irresistable guide to a thoroughly recommended golfing holiday in a magical country. Although I have long lived away from the Principality, this book beckons my early return...after all, there are two courses not yet seen and many others to be again savoured.
As the build up to the Welsh Ryder Cup builds, don't wait - pack your clubs and use John Hopkins' book as your guide - rich pleasures await.
Coffee table delight for golf aficionados
Hopkins will be known to many for his erudite and distinctive words as Golf Correspondent of The Times. Here he plays second fiddle to some outstanding photography displaying courses in Wales that, as the author says, "are fun to play". If you want to know more about Wales's golfing treasures - and with some handy hints on where to stay and to eat - this provides a minefield of information. Hopkins illuminates the glossy snaps with pithy recollections and impressions of the courses in his languid prose. You don't need to be Ian Woosnam to get full value from this one.
