LA REQUIEM - Karen Garcia is missing and her father doesn't trust the cops - so he turns to Elvis Cole and Joe Pike. It seems that Karen may be the latest victim of a distinctive serial killer and the police are determined to pin the blame on a witness. Cole has his doubts, and it's down to him to reveal the killer. But nailing the murderer will mean choosing between the two people he cares about most.... DEMOLITION ANGEL - John Michael Fowles has a natural gift: he understands explosives. It is a talent which he fully expects will take him onto the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list. Along the way he will match himself against the best - an elite team of FBI bomb technicians. When a special agent discovers the link behind the bombs that are killing his team, he knows he must set a trap - with human bait. HOSTAGE - When a convenience store robbery goes horribly wrong, the teenagers responsible make a run for it and crash into the nearby home of an accountant , taking the family hostage. But the gang have picked the wrong house. The accountant works for the mafia and holds all the local family's financial records. With the mob and the cops soon on the scene, it seems like there's no way out of the nightmarish three-way stand-off...

Customer Reviews

Great but where is Elvis?5
Beware - LA Requiem is a superb book in the Elvis Cole series, it really fleshes out all of the familiar characters, especially Pike - we learn a lot more about why he is who he is and what makes him tick in this story. I was enthralled. Then I started the second story in this three-in-one book, Demolition Angel, and by the time I got to chapter 4 and had been asking myself "This is great but where the hell is Elvis?" for the past several pages, it finally dawned on me that Elvis was not going to put in an appearance, the second and third books in this volume are NOT Elvis Cole stories. That said, Demolition Angel is a cracking story. I haven't even reached Hostage yet, but felt compelled to come and write this now just to warn others who may have been expecting an Elvis gorge-fest like I was...

Robert Crais is the most exciting author I have discovered for a long time - but if you haven't read any of his Elvis Cole books before, I would recommend you read them in order, starting with The Monkey's Raincoat. Granted, early on there was little reason to read them in order, but by the time you get to Free Fall or Voodoo River then it starts to become much more important (I think) to do so.

I discovered these books a year or so ago, and I have been trying to ration myself by reading other books in between, but I can't help coming back to them - I love the gripping stories and the humour in these books so much that I am dreading finally "catching up" with Mr. Crais' output!

I thought that Lee Child's creation Jack Reacher was good, but the Elvis stories are just superb. You will not be disappointed.

As I've said in the other 3-book compilation from Robert Crais, this is good value for money, but it does make your arms ache reading it in bed!
