What a lovely book!
I bought this book together with David Eccles' 'VW Camper - The inside story' because I am a classic vehicle fan and because I thought I might pick up a few tricks while doing up my own old camper. Both large size beautifully executed books were excellent on both counts. But 'Classic Camper Vans' was the more endearing one with its lovely snub nosed Bedford CA's and cuddly round-nosed BMC J2's with their primly hidden wheels. The enormous Mini Wildgoose conversion takes the cake, of course. Apart from the well-written and informative text, the sometimes ingenious simple solutions to create more space and the beautiful woodwork interiors, it is the wonderful 50's and 60's atmosphere in the pictures and advertising material that makes this book the perfect antidote to those vulgar modern plastic juggernauts made bij Hymer cum suis nowadays. As the sub-title already shows, the book is about British campers, so you won't be bothered by those American VW-splitscreen painting beach boys either.
Classic camper vans -the inside story.
If you are interested in classic camper vans this is the book for you. I found it instructive as well as interesting, and full of colour shots of all the various styles of vans.
The book is written by the founder of the Classic camper club so it contains accurate info. At the back is a list of facts and figures relevant to the vehicles and I found it a useful guide to point me in the right direction. Overall I was quite pleased with the book and can recommend it quite happily.
