Editorial Reviews
CD Description
'Back To Black' is the second album from London-based chanteuse Amy Winehouse. Combining a strong, jazzy vocal style with often frank lyrical content recounting tales of love and loss, Winehouse is a truly talented songwriter with a good ear for melody, making this album an essential purchase. Includes the single 'Rehab'.
Customer Reviews
10/10
No second album syndrome for the glorious Amy Winehouse. On 'Back to Black' she has honed and developed her gorgeous jazz edged sound into something truly special!
This album explores a range of styles: from 60's inspired motown, including the James-Bond-theme-tune sounding title track (on which she sounds not unlike Shirley Bassey!), through delicious hip-hop tinged jazz on 'You know I'm no good' to gorgeous ballads including the superb 'Love is a losing game'.
Amy Winehouse's lyrics stand out on this album. She has a talent for writing about quite painful issues (loss of love, as on 'Tears dry on their own' or infidelity on 'You know I'm no good') with matter-of-fact honesty and incredible humour. Her songs make you laugh and wince in equal measure! Fabulous stuff.
'Back to black' is sultry, sexy and funny. While it would make good 'dinner-party music', take the time to sit and give it your full attention. Amy Winehouse's music is far more than her catchy, smoochy tunes; her words add depth, humour and a hefty dose of experience.
She's a force to be reckoned with, and certainly deserved the praise and success this album has received. Her existing fans will not be disappointed, and she is going to add a mass of new listeners from a very wide age range as a result of this piece of work.
One of the best British Solo singers to date.....
A class album from a very talented and often misconstrued individual.
Take away her addiction to various illegal opiates and you have yourself a very witty, confident individual who, once clened up will continue to go a long way.
I understand that the record company has canned her latest offerings for her new album, lets hope she can find the magic again to produce another groundbreaking album.
so and so
Very good Amy's voice and music.. a must have! I don't like very much the recording, for sure if you are an audiophile it's not for you!
