Product Description

Anatomy of Movement is a dynamic, integrated approach to the study of the physical structures of the musculoskeletal system and their functional relationship to the movements of the human body. The emphasis is on basic human anatomy as it relates to external body movement. In clear and concise text illustrated with more than a thousand graphic drawings, the author takes the reader on a lively tour of the muscles, bones, ligaments and joints of the arms, legs and trunk. The focus throughout the book is on anatomy not for its own sake, but in its functional relationship to the actual movements of the body in physical disciplines.

About the Author
Blandine Calais-Germain's life-long involement with dance, both as a performer and teacher, eventually led to a more formal study of the complex, integrated movements of the body. From 1977 to 1980 she studied physiotherapy at the French School of Orthopedics and Massage in Paris. In physiotherapy, body movements are analyzed both in terms of their neurophysiological and mechanical aspects, which allows for a better understanding of the actual mechanisms of movement. From her work with dance and physiotherapy, the author developed an innovative method for teaching the physical structures of anatomy in relation to movement. Blandine Calais-Germain presently lives in a small town in the south of France with her husband and their two children.

Customer Reviews

Comprehensive Introduction4
This book offers a lucid and thorough description of the functional and structural anatomy of not only the spine but also all the major joints of the body. Useful reading as a orientating guide for manual practitioners. Makes up for what it lacks in referenced research by illustrating with clear diagrams and brief summaries. Great last minute book to read before practical (for e.g. osteopathy) exams.

Anatomy of Movement5
Brilliant diagrams/drawings and I have found it more useful than a lot of other books on biomechanics and muscle insertions etc.
Highly recommend it BUT everyone has their own way of studying!

Superbly Readable5
I've not read an ananotmy book that brings the subject to life as much as this one does. Explains thing clearly and concisely, and really helps with building up an image of how everything fits and works together. One of the previous comments was that this was not a novel - well in my humble opinion it's the closest you'll find from an anatomy book!
