How far would you go to protect your past? How much further to protect someone else's? The start of a thrilling Edinburgh-based series starring rebellious young lawyer Brodie MacLennan. A celebrated Edinburgh lawyer is found murdered outside an infamous gay haunt and notorious dominatrix Kailash Coutts stands accused. Against her wishes, headstrong, unorthodox Brodie McClennan is appointed to defend Kailash under the watchful gaze of the 'Dark Angels', a violent street-gang led by the enigmatic Moses Tierney. As the case becomes ever more complex, Brodie receives a chilling photograph, establishing a link to a number of brutal murders and a suspected paedophile ring. It becomes apparent that a serial killer is haunting the city - and that powerful people are involved, intent on covering up past crimes. Brodie herself becomes a target - both for a depraved killer and for deadly forces in the highest of circles! A shocking, atmospheric thriller that combines a centuries-old conspiracy with heart-stopping terror for fans of Ian Rankin and Mo Hayder!

About the Author
Grace Monroe is the pseudonym of Maria Thomson and Linda Watson-Brown. Maria graduated with a law degree in her 20s and soon met her future husband. The couple now have four children. Since finishing her law career she has worked as a hypnotherapist, stage hypnotist and fertility counsellor amongst others. After 10 years as a Politics lecturer, Linda began her journalistic career as a columnist at The Scotsman. She went on to write regularly for the Daily Mail, Sunday Herald and Independent and also started ghostwriting. In 2006, her first ghost-written book, The Step Child, was a Sunday Times bestseller. Maria and Linda met in 2003, became firm friends and decided to write as a team. Dark Angels is the first novel in a planned series featuring Brodie MacLennan.
Customer Reviews
Very disappointing
I bought this book because I thought it looked like a good read. I was bitterly disappointed. I struggled through the book thinking it would get better and warrant the good reviews it's received but unfortunately it was poor from beginning to end. The storyline stutters rather than flows and the plot is unrealistic. The main character isn't likeable and is rather unbelievable.
I had to give this book one star - there wasn't an option to pick none!
Not as good as others make out
I bought this book based on the other reviews and it was no where near as good as I was expecting. The plot line is meshed together like a badly stitched patchwork quilt (should that be Kilt?) There is no flow like Rankin or Harvey or Goddard. There are bits of Scottish law interspersed within the story line that are of a very dubious significance to the book and seem to be shoe horned in just to prove the author has worked in the legal profession. . Brodie MacLennan is a very unlike able character, ace lawyer one minute, Biker chick the next, crime fighter, hypnotist and child of a notorious whore. Scottish Pants !!
A Brilliant Debut Novel And Can't Wait For The Rest In The Series
I purchased this novel off Amazon having accidentaly came across the book on the site. I read the first chapter before work and soon realised that I had taken it with me to work. I just could not put it down. I love the characters and I now am looking forward to the next Brodie Mclennan novel.
