Product Description

Three years ago, award-winning actress Angelina Jolie took on a radically different role as a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Here are her memoirs from her journeys to Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Pakistan, Cambodia, and Ecuador, where she lived and worked and gave her heart to those who suffer the world's most shattering violence and victimization. Here are her revelations of joy and warmth amid utter destitution, compelling snapshots of courageous and inspiring people for whom survival is their daily work and candid notes from a unique pilgrimage that completely changed the actress's worldview - and the world within herself.

Customer Reviews

angelina jolie5
Angelina Jolie is a star who doesn't think about herself all the time, in this book she goes down to the bare min to see how these people actually survive.
She looks into the hearts of these people and see what drives them to make it in this world, she actually listens to what they have to say.
This book is a must if you want to see Angelina at her best.

Angelina's Journals, open your eyes5
This book has made me realise just what is going on in the world. It makes me sad to think that a book like this has to be writen by a famous actress so people will read it. I enjoyed her thoughts and have discovered a new person inside of me. I think it would do everyone good to read this book.

A taste of harsh reality5
Here we are in the western world in our comfortable homes, surrounded by those we love and perhaps not aware that many miles away are men, women & children suffering at the hands of other human beings and not able to even build a life for themselves or a future for their children. This book is an honest and open account of the journey that this wonderful example of what "celebrity" should be about, makes in order to bring a little bit of understanding about the plight of these poor individuals and how various organisations are trying to assist them with very little help. I can honestly say that prior to reading this book I was very cynical to the needs of refugees and my attitude towards them was extremely negative so I would like to thank Angelina for writing this journal as I feel that I have been enlightened and my outlook on life has changed drastically.
