Just awful enough to qualify as someone's guilty pleasure, this convoluted thriller was supposed to cash in on the supposedly sexy teaming of Sylvester Stallone and Sharon Stone (then hot from her ample exposure in Basic Instinct), but their naked groping in a shower provides one of the film's unintentionally funny highlights. Ray Quick (Stallone) is a former CIA bomb expert whose former colleague (James Woods) is now in cahoots with a Miami drug cartel led by kingpin Joe Leon (Rod Steiger), who chews the scenery while his son Tomas (Eric Roberts) proceeds with a greedy hidden agenda. May Munro (Stone) hires Quick to kill off Roberts. The Specialist, featuring lots of explosions and redeemed by a dandy role for James Woods, is best suited for ardent Stallone and Stone fans. --Jeff Shannon

Synopsis
A Miami woman whose family has been "erased" by a nefarious crime lord hires an ex-CIA explosives expert to gain revenge. His job is made more difficult when he falls for his beautiful client, and when his target hires his equally skilled ex-partner in this tense action-drama.

A sexy thriller - with added sex!
Most people didn't give this film achance, but you should. In places, it is really quite thrilling. Of course, the highlight is the sex scene, which is steaming with chemisty between the two leads. One sexy thriller.

a memorable watch - Roberts shines
We all know Stalone - nothing new here. Ditto Stone (though their names sound great together in the trailer). For me, this is the best Roberts performance I've ever seen. James Woods is his usual mean sharpness. Rod Steiger included. The movie has a good build up and the usual explosive (literally & metaphorically) finish action movies have us accustomed to. Definitely worth a watch.

Memorable for the shower scene
This seems like a film tailor-made so Sly & Sharon can 'strut their stuff' in the coupling dept. Sharon vamps, Sly warbles thru his lines. Yea, he's got a deep & sexy voice but you can only pick up on what he's saying to her on the phone if you got close-caption on your set! Anyway, they both look VERY fine in this film. James Woods is the pest you'll love to hate being the back-stabber that he is. "Slime" is the only word to use for Eric Roberts role & Rod Steiger's Hispanic accent is fun! See the edited version of this one. It's got a slick color to it that's quite appealing being that it was shot in Miami where everything's bright pink & green.
