Amazon.co.uk Review
Released amidst rumors of romance between costars Angelina Jolie and soon-to-be-divorced Brad Pitt, Mr. and Mrs. Smith offers automatic weapons and high explosives as the cure for marital boredom. The premise of this exhausting action-comedy (no relation to the 1941 Alfred Hitchcock comedy starring Carole Lombard and Robert Montgomery) is that the unhappily married Smiths (Pitt and Jolie) will improve their relationship once they discover their mutually-hidden identities as world-class assassins, but things get complicated when their secret-agency bosses order them to rub each other out. There's plenty of amusing banter in the otherwise disposable screenplay by Simon Kinberg, and director Doug Liman gives Pitt and Jolie a slick, glossy superstar showcase that's innocuous but certainly never boring. It could've been better, but as an action-packed summer confection, Mr. and Mrs. Smith kills two hours in high style. --Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com

Synopsis
Named after a 1941 Alfred Hitchcock film, MR. AND MRS. SMITH is really its own ball of flaming wax, with enough sizzling chemistry between stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt to blow up a small building. He shows he is equally adept in comedy and action, and she manages to set new screen standards of bad-ass sexiness. It's impossible to dislike this pair, or a movie that makes being married seem like such insane fun. Pitt and Jolie play extremely skilled professional assassins who have managed to stay married for five years without ever realising each other's profession because they work for rival agencies and the work is top secret. When their paths eventually cross on a high-level hit, one of the most lethal battles of the sexes in the history of cinema is officially on. Thanks to a genuinely witty script, the issue isn't who will win, but whether the couple will realise they are meant for each other before it's too late. Director Doug Liman was obviously the right choice for the material, having proved his ability to fuse engaging romance with knuckle-biting action in 2002's THE BOURNE IDENTITY. The comedy is sophisticated and witty, the action is visceral and intense, and there is plenty of satisfying eye candy. Another plus is Vince Vaughn as a fast-talking fellow hit man who lives with his mother. The cinematography is by Bozan Bajelli (the genius behind Abel Ferrara's best mid-1980s work) who imbues each environment, whether it's the Smith's house, or the urban streets - with its own evocative colour scheme and feel.

Please, give it a chance5
Personally, i think all you people who think this is a bad film because of the acting and script, have been watching too much Hitchcock.
It is true, the acting and script aren't perfect, but the chemistry between the two leads, the actors, the special effects and a great plot should make you want to run toward this movie. I love it. I think lots of other people love, or really like it too.

BRAD VS ANGIE, GUNS A GO-GO, ONE COOL MOVIE4
After all the tabloid shenanigans I had to see this for myself with a bunch of friends. I know what a good film is and this film scores because the leads are gorgeous - I mean c'mon they just are - and the film is pretty good. Style edges over content but that's OK. The film never promises anything other than what it is: a noisy, sexy action film with a cleverish twist. This husband and wife are bored with each other and in marriage counselling. Luckily they are professional, but secret assassins (The Long Goodbye has a similar twist,) and are lucky enough to be pitched against each other. That's just the kind of partner action they (and a few of us out here) need to kick-start romance! It's a fun filled twist to the usual run of the mill action films. With the dud reviews, we were expecting to be disappointed but we had a surprisingly good time. Brad and Angelina try to outdo each other in the action and gun stakes. Angelina wins out (she's has grace and guts and Brad's just a bit more careful) but I bet gentle Brad loved every minute - we would have! And now, apparently, they're getting married. Good luck to them. They look like soul mates and we wish them all the best. There does seem to be an unnecessary reprise at the end that makes the film a little too long but the pay off is we get to see Brad in his undershorts (well, if you like Brad you'll appreciate it). Also they are assassins -why should we like them? That's my main gripe. Nevertheless, this is a favourite 2005 film of mine because it isn't po faced, it isn't pretentious - it's just fast, sexy, amoral, romantic and, yes, violent, fantasy fun. Sometimes that fits the bill. If you're in the mood, get some pop corn in, turn the sound up on your cinema system and get down with Brad and Angie. Oh and where's the video game? This might be one I'd buy.

Mr&Mrs Smith - Anything but ordinary5
This film is designed to be a glossy action romp spliced with comedy along the way. Its pure enjoyable entertainment. So its not going to win any oscars or have you scratching your head over the plot but if thats what you want you already know you shouldn't be here! This films fulfills its premise very well and is one of the best slick action films i have seen for a while, the only other film with this level of smooth production was the very enjoyable and highly entertaining Oceans 11. Now this doesnt have a plot with twists but its serves it purpose well and is perfect to watch when you want a fun enjoyable film to use a couple of hours. Very good action/comedy with two of the most indescently attractive people on the planet!
