The Finest Fishing tome around
This is the book that accompanies the telivision series of the same name. The film maker is a world renowned wildlife photographer and the protaganists are almost as accomplished in their chosen field of angling. The book relates the gestation and production of the series and includes many of the amusing incidents captured on film, as well as a little of the background that is absent from the filming.

The team was beautifully put together in that there are artists with the film camera, the rod and the pen in their make up and this comes across beautifully in the book. I will let you decide where you place them, but for me "Chubby Yates" gets the pen. (Not that he didn't have a certain skill with those antiquated rods of his.)

The book, and the film series, sets out to capture the very essence of fishing. That almost intangible thing that draws grown men to the river bank, in the manner and wonder of a small boy, every weekend. That undefineable, certain something that we as anglers all know, but can never put our fingers on. The book does not elucidate what this something is, to do so would be to destroy the magic, but it does show the beauty and wonder remains for years and years. Efemoral, and elusive like many of the quarry species, but real and vibrant none the less.

If you are an angler, or you require to develop an understanding of a husband, boyfriend, or brother that fishes you could do worse than read this book. The answer is not there, but it will give you a measure of understanding as to what drives them. Maybe, the only way to really understand is to grip the rod yourself and follow the dream.
