A beautiful book telling the story of a precious friendship. A brilliant exploration of the feelings of grief and loss encountered when a loved one dies. Excellent for young children!

For any pet-owner
I was first given this book when I Was 7; I'm now 24 and it still has as much resonance as ever. Beautifully written and illustrated, it is the story of a young boy growing up with his dog and how gradually he comes to realise his best friend will not be there forever.

It always makes me cry because it is so true to life and I really recommend this book to anyone, young or old, who has an animal or has loved and lost. A heartwarming (yet wrenching!) tale of friendship.

If you have ever owned and loved a dog this book is a MUST HAVE item for when the time comes when the inevitable happens. This is particularly the case if children are involved. It can make you weepy but it is not overly sensimental. It addresses the grief and shows a balanced response to it and provides a model of behaviour that shows a way forward. I bought copies for my children who have left home in preparation for the sad day we saw coming and both of them appreciated them. It does not matter how old you are!
