Customer Reviews

a great book with excellent analysis and rare solutions5
Another great book by Erik Marcus, this is a must read for anyone interested in animal rights. Erik examines the issues within the animal rights movement, as well as strategies for more effective work. A must-read.

Thought provoking reading for animal advocates5
Meat Market is essential reading for anyone involved in animal advocacy. If you ever feel like you're working hard but not seeing results Eric Marcus will help you work smarter not harder.

Marcus looks at how animal agriculture can be dismantled (a key concept in the book) by stripping it of it's key assets. One may not agree fully with his analysis, but everyone who's working for change on this issue will find something useful and a perspective on the work we're doing. Especially the 8 chapters written by top activists about their strategies and rationale should inspire everyone. I know that I'll be trying out some new exciting things after reading this.

Another aspect of the book which excited me was its look at the animal movements strategies and claims. It's rare to find self examination within the movement, but Marcus demonstrates how badly it's needed. The book examines often presented claims about the environmental toll of farming and veg health claims in a most convincing manner. Anyone who wants to be informed on these issues will do well to start here.

The book also contains a well written and thoroughly researched part about factory farming and what animals are subjected to in animal agriculture.

If you want to be more effective for animals. This is a great place to start.

Meat Market is essential reading for anyone involved in animal advocacy. The book details facts about animal agriculture, the movement for animals and it's strategy.

What I though the book did brilliantly is look at the animal movements strategies and claims. It's rare to find self examination within the movement, but Marcus demonstrates how badly need it is. The book moderates claims about the environmental toll of farming and veg health claims in a most convincing manner. Anyone who wants to be informed on these issues will do well to start here.

The book also contains a lengthy and well written section on factory farming and what animals are subjected to.
