Product Description

Things did not go according to plan in Sleightholm's first years as a police dog handler. The difficulties of finding and keeping the right dog were so great that he was ready to give up. Then Cass came along. The two of them quickly formed a bond, graduated as stars from the training school and became an outstanding effective working partnership. Cass became part of the Sleightholm family too. Car thieves, armed robbers, drug dealers, murderers, burglars - Cassius learned to find them, contain them, intimidate and attack if he had to. Sometimes it was dangerous for him. Usually it was more dangerous for the criminal. The story of Cassius is by turns thrilling, funny and moving, and always a fascinating insight into the freemasonry of police dog training. A genius among dogs he may have been, but he was still a dog, an animal that could trust, please, stir every emotion, frustrate, infuriate, delight and, in the end, break your heart.

postscript on Cassius5
Hi. A most moving story explaining how and why dog relationships with humans can 'go wrong' and how so often it is usually the human's fault. With Kate Nicholas' book Kate and Gin this is a book which exemplifies how relationships have to be worked at. I recommend both books to potential dog owners to help fully understand that taking on an animal is a major decision and is a commitment for the dog's life at least. Wonderful returns are there if you are prepared to put in the hard work but dogs are not 'toys' to be picked up and put down as you please. You must accept them as part of your life and as a fulltime partner.

For lovers of German Shepherd Dogs4
Enjoyed the book very much, liked the details of how the dog reacted to the training, and if you love german shepherd dogs, it just proves how intelligent they are.I liked the police language, not too politically correct!
