Product Description

The Carousel Prue is intelligent, artistic, independent - and bored. Pressurized by her mother to make a conventional and dull marriage, she is delighted to escape London and seek retreat with her eccentric and bohemian aunt in Cornwall. A chance encounter with an attractive young artist on the sea shore leads to day after idyllic summer's day of exploring the Cornish countryside and coast. But there is something troubling Daniel and Prue, now deeply entangled, feels compelled to discover what it is. Voices in Summer Laura, newly married and ever conscious of the shadow of her husband Alec's first wife, takes a holiday with his family in Cornwall. Through the long, hot summer days she is charmed by the beautiful old house and the people she learns to know and love. The sight of the sparkling, brilliant sea quiets for a while her uneasy spirit. Only an anonymous letter, accusing her of having an affair, can threaten her new-found tranquillity.

A Touching, non taxing read5
An excellent read if one is seeking light relief from everyday life and stresses. The plot is easy to follow and the meaning is charmingly un obtrusive. Prues character is enjoyable to follow, although the only downfall would be that the end is a little unbelievable. Overall I would reccomend this book.

Pilcher: a good formula4
For those of you who have read Rosemunde Pilcher novels before, then you will know what you are in for: lead characters (usually female) with whom one can empathize and who has a dilemma or two she is struggling with; a strong romantic streak running through the plot line; plenty of supporting characters who are remarkably admirable; lots of lovely evocative and descriptive narrative passages; and most importantly of all, a happy ending.

Pilcher certainly attracts her critics. One does not have to work very hard when reading a Pilcher novel, but if you are feeling somewhat down or in the mood for something towards the lighter scale of things, then you cannot go wrong with her novels. They are guaranteed to make you feel better. Just put your brain in neutral and go with a nice, lovely flow that will leave you happy and content in the end.

Ideal Read if Recovering From an Illness3
I read this book whilst I was recovering from bronchitis and found it a very relaxing read, that didn't require too much brain activity.

I have to agree with the other lady in so much as that it doesn't have the same depth as The Shell Seekers, hence giving it three stars.

I would recommend this book for anyone who just wants a nice relaxing read.
