Customer Reviews
Highly reccomended
This book is fantastic for anyone wishing to find out more about what it's like to work in print journalism. It covers all aspects from entry to getting ahead and journalistic responsibilities. The style is entertaining with personal anecdotes and doesn't shy away from the less desirable parts of journalism which is helpful if you hope to pursue a career in this sometimes infamous profession!
Everything for the aspiring Journalist!
Journalism, the craft which keeps us informed. In this work Fletcher give's us the high's and low's of the profession, from many year's of experience. It is also accompanied with much wit, and is layed out in a very easy-to-read way. It's not so hard that you can't make sense of what he's saying, like most of the other books on the subject. As an aspiring journalist myself (this is written by Angela's son), I have learnt many of the trick's of the trade.
The book is excellent as I may have said already if you have an ambition to be a journalist, or just a plain interest. However if you want to know more about the controversial side to the media I recommend the bookFlat Earth News: An Award-winning Reporter Exposes Falsehood, Distortion and Propaganda in the Global Media.
Once again and finally though, the book is a truly great source for the business, and is very honest and comes from the heart. Kim Fletcher shows that it's not all glitz and glam, but it involves hard-work.
It just inspires us budding journalists even more, to carry on and inspire more generations of young journalists. That is The JOURNALIST'S HANDBOOK: An Insider's guide to being a great journalist. Highly recommended.
a dream come true
before reading this book i feared the worse. not being good with words i thought i would not have what it takes to be a top journalist. wrong and wrong again declaims kim fletcher. if you have wit, guile and are not afraid to trick people the world is your oyster. look at me says kim with wicked humor. i came from nowhere to make it to the top of the greasy pole armed with no more than ambition and beguiling good looks. i too have a certain carisma like kim and now believe i can go all the way like him. i will shed the bagagge of a conscience and go for it for what matters in journalism is getting to the top. i am so grateful to him for having written this rippingly good book. no one is going to stand in my way. not my friends or family. i have told my fiancee she must wait for me while i make my way in the world. she has told me she is prepared to wait on condition i get my first job on a newspaper before Xmas. Wish me luck! It is long way from issuing parking tickest to writing about events. i know i can do it with the help of friends and family! i will keep kim's book by my bed as an inspiration!
