Fun and functional
For such a small speaker, the sound levels are impressive! A definite improvement on laptop speakers, making watching DVDs a more comfortable experience without headphones (although it removes the excuse of not being able to hear domestic crises developing). The main reason for buying a portable speaker was that a previous attempt to use the laptop to provide background music at a childrens' party had failed miserably - this speaker succeeded in playing "The Lambeth Walk" loud enough to be heard over stomping 7 year-olds. Also performed well with iPod Nano and iPhone, where having a decent length of cable meant that the sound source could be kept out of reach of sticky fingers.
I did notice a slight distortion on treble at max volume for iPhone and speaker, but not sure which was the culprit; the distortion was particularly noticeable on vocal tracks, such as LeAnn Rimes and Minnie Ripperton (don't ask). Bass however, didn't seem to have any problem.... for added entertainment, try the Doctor Who theme on full blast and watch the speaker become a mini-Dalek!
