Do not buy for filters
This adaptor is advertised for two purposes, one of which is to provide a 58mm ring for filters. This is why I bought it.. and returned it. The problem is vignetting. Instead I found a company called lensmate who make a machined aluminium item (that's cheaper than this overpriced canon product) that is shorter and will (should - ordered today) not vignette. As just a lens adaptor I'm sure this product is fine, but Canon should provide more information.
Completely hopeless design
As per the previous review, I to purchased this item to use for the filter thread (to utilise a Circular Polarizer).
At the shortest focal length the adapter vignettes, severely, while you can split the adapter in half this means you cannot extend the lens at all.
The 2nd problem where if a filter is attached to the full unit (ie both halves joined together - which worsens the vignetting) the lens hits the filter when fully extended, causing the camera to panic and shut down.
This must be the worst design of a product I have ever come accross and is going straight back as it certainly is not capable of doing what it is advertised to do.
