CD Description
The term "Latin rock" can mean many different things, from traditional Mexican music simply played with electric instruments to death metal sung in Spanish. The music of Colombiansinger/songwriter/guitarist Juanes is perhaps more deserving than most of the appellation, as his sound is a true hybrid that borrows several of the best qualities from both Latinand rock music. With its super-dry, punchy production, sharp songwriting, and wickedly tasty guitar leads, MI SANGRE has all the pop smarts of an early Elvis album, but adds a romanticism and powerful rhythmic kick that's distinctly south of the border. With its sweeping strings and soaring melody,"Para Tu Amor" sounds a bit like Eric Carmen or Paul McCartney fronting a Cuban son band. The organ-driven dance-party funk of "Damelo", on the other hand, is reminiscent of Jamiroquai. Sporting shaggy tresses, tattoos, and a beat-up Stratocaster, Juanes proves that his rocker look is no mere costume, but an accurate reflection of his distinctive and powerful musical fusion.

One of my favourites
A great album. The quality varies, but at worst (Dámelo) I quite enjoyed it; at best (Sueños & Camisa Negra)I heard some really stirring lyrics and a tune that wrapped itself around my spine and kept me humming for the rest of the day. They stick in your mind, these songs, which I guess may or may not be a bad thing.. it certainly makes a good soundtrack for an otherwise humdrum school day! :D
Great Latin Music
I think it's more useful if I just give a quick run down of all the songs:
1. Amame - 3/5 - A cool light rock tune which is a nice opener, definately a grower.
2. Para Tu Amor - 2&half/5 - Good if you like slow ballads but I find it a bit boring.
3. Suenos - 5/5 - This is where the album gets going with a guitar heavy rock tune.
4. La Camisa Negra - 5/5 - Brilliant song. Similar to "La Paga". The guitar riff is great with a real Latin feel.
5. Nada Valgo Sin Tu Amor - 5/5 - The album's lead single, a brilliant slice of pop rock.
6. No Siento Penas - 3/5 - A chilled out sorta ballad song.OK.
7. Damelo - 5/5 - Brilliant funky rock song.
8. Lo Que Me Gusta A Mi - 4/5 - This is a really fun song which reminds me of summer.
9. Rosario Tijeras - 3/5 - A nice latin rock jam.
10. Que Pasa? - 5/5 - My favourite on the album. The lyrics are great and the reggae rock sound adds more variation to the album.
11. Volverte A Ver - 4/5 - The second release from this album. It's a catchy poppy tune.
12. Tu Guardian - 2/5 - Yawn....
Fab!!
This album was my introduction to Juanes. Having heard "La Camisa Negra" on the music channel I just had to buy it. I speak very little spanish but that doesn't matter because you can appreciate the musicality and there are plenty sites on the internet which give translations.
I now have all of his albums and find it fascinating how he's developed since "Fijate Bien". Every album is different and for those who say Juanes has lost his way - that's just not true. He refuses to fit nicely into a specific genre so he can use all his influences and since he has the talent to do this I have no problem with it.
The only song I don't like on the album is "Tu Guardian" which is a bit slow and not a good album ender.
10/10 Definitely a good buy if you're open minded enough to listen to lyrics which aren't in English.
