DVD Description
Duty Free is a pure British sitcom following David Pearce (Keith Barron) and his wife Amy (Gwen Taylor) on a package holiday in sunny Spain, where they meet another unsuspecting couple, Robert and Linda Cochrane (Neil Stacy and Joanna Van Gyseghem). The cocktail of comedy antics take their course when David sets eyes on Linda. They pursue each other’s every move in order to prolong their steamy affair in privacy. It’s far from sunshine all the way and by the end they have bags to declare!
Synopsis
The complete collection of the 1980s package holiday sit-com DUTY FREE. Having been made redundant from his draughtsman's job, David Pearce (Keith Barron) and his wife Amy (the glorious Gwen Taylor) are using some of his redundancy money to pay for a foreign holiday together. They are staying at the San Remo Hotel, Marbella on the Costa Del Sol, where they have met Robert Cochran and his beautiful wife Linda. Linda and David are instantly attracted to one another and are attempting to have a holiday romance. There are farcical secret rendez-vous, dodgy disguises and hiding in wardrobes, to avoid their spouses--the brusque Amy and boring, straightlaced Robert. Carlos the Spanish waiter is always around to foul things up. Co-written by RISING DAMP'S Eric Chappell.

FUNNY
Duty Free belongs in the old school of British comedy. This show topped the reatings when first shown in 1984 and was repeated pretty often during the mid 80`s. The 3 dvds..disc 1 has the first series set during the first week. The acting is exceptional, Keith Barron is excellant as David, recently made redundant and living a lie with Linda the well to do English woman married to Robert who doesn`t seem to notice her. The revelation is Gwen Taylor as Amy who lights up the screen in all her scenes and gets the best lines. (TO A BULLFIGHTER-"YOU`RE JUST A HITMAN FOR FREY BENTOS")
Gwen Taylors acting as she witnesses losing her husband to Linda takes this above most other comedy performances. From the same writer as `Rising Damp, the 2nd series on disc 2 features the second week and is just as funny. Whilst disc 3 features the return the year after and the first two episode are classic British farce. There is also the episode featuring Judith Charmers which is brilliant. Also on disc 3 is the 1986 special `A DUTY FREE CHRISTMAS` which works well on film and without an audience you see the chemistry between the 4 stars...not forgetting Carlos the waiter. Roberts remarks about Germans and references to Pasatas may date this..after all it`s 20 years since series 1 but it is still classic, funny British comedy.
Duty Free is a must have
Duty Free was a brilliant show when it was made in 1985, I have just watched it again after 19 years, and it is still as funny now as it was then. There is not one episode that I can say I did not enjoy, just to hear the funny remarks from Amy to her husband David will make you roll about with laughter.
Good but missing material
An excellent series which other reviewers have done justice to already. My low score and complaint is that this particular boxed set has been edited from the original material. Its run time is 562 minutes when the other boxed set has a run time of 575 minutes and I am aware of some scenes which have been cut from this set. Missing appear to be the 'bondage' scene with Linda and the Jamaican gambler with David missing the plane home. Quite why some idiots would want to edit these out I really don't know, but it spoils an otherwise excellent product. My recommendation would be to buy the other set as this presumably has the uncensored material on it (I haven't bought it, but this seems likely to me, given the 'missing' 13 minutes).
