About the Author
Chris Ryan:
Chris Ryan was born in 1961 in a village near Newcastle. In 1984 he joined the SAS. During his ten years he was involved in overt and covert operations and was also Sniper team commander of the anti-terrorist team. During the Gulf War, Chris was the only member of an eight-man team to escape from Iraq, of which three colleagues were killed and four captured. It was the longest escape and evasion in the history of the SAS. For this he was awarded the Military Medal. During Ryan's last two years in the Regiment he selected and trained potential SAS recruits, he left the SAS in 1994. His work in security takes him around the world.

Customer Reviews

chris ryan is the best5
I love this book! i have read all of the seris and this is by far my favourite. it is fasted paced and a page turner. by the time you have finished the book and the seris you feel like you know the characters. this is a great book for young adults and deffinatly one to recommend.

5 STARTS DOESNT GIVE IT JUSTICE!

What's Happened?2
I don't know whether it's because I haven't read this series of books for a long time but I felt that this and the start of his new books are so different from the rest. I'd loved his writing in books previously written for the series, especially when it looked at the character relationships and their life back home. However now it just seems the 5 main characters are 2 dimensional and no more past history is given. I loved these at first especially before the new covers were designed but was annoyed I'd bought the 3 new ones.
The plot is decent and the moral aspect of this seemed enlightening but the plot seemed too trivial compared to drugs, slavery and life and death situations that have been written into the books before.
All this said and done I still would recommended his series and the other books for 9-12 yr olds. . But if you feel they're too belittling, read his series for adults!

Great new Alpha Force!5
Alpha Force are competing in an extreme sports contest - an adventure race, running, cycling, horse-riding and abseiling, in Luangwa National Park, Zambia. After saving a girl who has fallen into a poacher's trap, they are invited to stay at her father's game reserve. They soon learn about the poachers, who have been terrorising the elephant population, for their valuable ivory. Alpha Force must sort out the poacher problem once and for all.
The plot was fun and the characters were great, and I would reccomend this book to any teen, as it has plenty in it to appeal to everybody.
It also contains Chris Ryan's top SAS tactics on dealing with wild animals, particularly those which are mentioned in the book - Elephants, Lions and Hippos to name a few - which are a great bonus.
