Customer Reviews

Great illustrations, nice organization and Holy Grail refs5
I was rolling when I saw that there was an entire tutorial based on Spinal Tap and another on Princess Bride and another on Holy Grail. And yet, it's all presented with a very straight face, and it's all correct, it's just that in the tutorial you're instructed to type, in the nice new box you created, "It's not a matter of where he grips it, it's a simple matter of weight ratios!" Absolutely brilliant.

And yes, there's good regular content too. Very nice index, well organized. Very logical, or at least I think the same way the authors do about where information should be found.

I especially like the enormous number of screen shots with lots of detailed callouts. There are also other diagrams to explain complicated topics like how to set up tables of contents and just what the heck master files are up to.

This is a very good book for getting on with things with StarOffice, and will entertain you as well.

Really well done, and easy to find information5
I am very pleased with this book, the "StarOffice 6.0 Office Suite Companion." It is an excellent balance of clarity and detail and while I cannot vouch for everyone I find that the "tech level" is just right for me. I am an experienced computer user so do not need a "Dummies" book, which this is not, but I do need direct, clear instructions to tell me what I want to do. Which this book provides.

I was most delighted by coverage of setting up databases, which was clear and provided me everything I needed without mistaking me for a system administrator who cares deeply about views and joins. The database works for StarOffice have changed in this version and I was rather alarmed at the prospect of learning a new system, but the instructions were quite nice and I had no trouble at all linking to my Access databases.

I strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants a supplement to the existing StarOffice manual, which is small and does not cover enough. This book also has many excellent illustrations while the StarOffice manual has almost no pictures.

This is great!5
I purchased this in the States and am so glad I did. I'm only annoyed that I didn't have it sooner, since I was ready to swear blind there were features StarOffice didn't have, which simply weren't easy to find. However, they're very well documented in this book. It's what I needed for the last several months while I was figuring things out the hard way. Finally managed to make headers and footers and page numbering work properly.
