Amazon.co.uk Review
In All American Girl Meg Cabot shows that she is comfortably carving out a niche for herself as an author of teen-chick-lit, albeit with the same plot line: an ordinary American girl who thinks she's not ordinary becomes an involuntary celebrity and realises life's the same whatever. This time, rather than becoming princess of a small fictional nation, as Mia does in The Princess Diaries, the heroine Sam saves the American president's life. Perhaps when Cabot's on her fifth ordinary heroine who thinks she's not ordinary, becomes an involuntary celebrity etc the idea may lose its lustre, but this book is fun, witty, cynical and realistic enough to ensure that the idea still shines.
Sam lives in Washington DC, is the middle teenager between two very annoying sisters, and dyes all her clothes black. She has a best friend, she's not cool like her big sister, she doesn't have a boyfriend but thinks she's in love with someone, and she likes to draw. Her credentials as an "ordinary" girl who thinks she's a misfit (black clothes, not a cheerleader) are established immediately, and the story flies from there. Sam's appeal lies in how she's bothered about making things genuine in her life, whilst Cabot's winning touch is in her realism--the president is a normal guy who likes cookies; the plot where Sam saves him is not impossible; the resulting fuss is boring and her priorities lie elsewhere (making lists of Top Tens, worrying about who she wants to go out with, going to her drawing classes).
Fans of Princess Mia will probably read this book in one sitting, and become equally attached to Sam, with her usual teenage desire to feel unusual. For now Meg Cabot's star of an idea continues to shine brilliantly. --Olivia Dickinson

...ideal entertainment for the older child.
Synopsis
Sam Madison never knew life could change overnight. But, that's exactly what happens when she saves the life of the President of the United States as she's bunking off art class one night. Now, an instant (if highly reluctant and very unlikely) celebrity, not to mention teen ambassador to the United Nations, Sam finds herself not only hanging out at the White House, but, trying to stop herself falling for David, the President's son ...

Fun Teen Novel
I generally enjoy Meg Cabot books and this one was no exception. Very funny, ordinary girl thrown into extraordinary situation set-up, quirky characters and a cute romance made reading this feel like watching one of favourite teen movies. Recommended.
Meg Cabot is cool !
Meg Cabot writes a mean teen chick lit story. You go through life wishing you could think of brilliant put downs and one liners, all Meg's characters have got it off to a tee.
She creates brilliant, funny, imperfect role models who are a joy to read about.
Good on you Meg, thanks again!!! :o)
All American Girl by Meg Cabot
Meg Cabot is probably most famous for her best-selling books `The Princess Diaries'. She doesn't disappoint in this book which calls upon your imagination and lack of reality.
The basic plot of this book is that Sam Madison signs up for art classes. There she meets the handsome stranger David. One night after her class she is waiting by the road when she sees a man with a gun. She jumps on him and ends up saving the President's life. The story follows Sam as her entire life is changed by the President and has to spend holidays avoiding camera crews.
I sympathised with the character Sam because one minute she was a normal teenager, the next minute she was a national hero. Suddenly she had a lot of responsibility as well as her normal life.
Its genre is humorous and romantic book as it follows the life of a teenage girl trying to make her way in the world. The novel is very sweet and funny because things are always going wrong for Sam.
The book manages to keep you interested. I stayed up half the night because I wanted to know how things turned out for Sam and David.
I think the author has tried to create a light hearted book that is easy to read and keeps you happy. It gives you a warm feeling inside when you read it and I think Cabot as achieved her goals successfully.
I think she could have made parts of the book a bit more realistic but apart from that I think it is really good and worth reading.
I would recommend this book to anyone who finds her other books good as it is very much along the same lone as those.
This book was fantastic and worth every penny I paid for it.
