Product Description

The Polity Collective, which benignly rules numerous star systems, has come up against a chilling opponent. The crablike Prador are bloodthirsty aliens bent on crushing the Polity and stealing its runcible technology ...and they possess a frightening superiority in space warfare. Two wild-card humans, a vengeance-driven soldier and a runcible technician, must now combine their talents in an attempt to stop a seemingly invincible Prador warship from incinerating yet another Polity world. Combining violence and cunning in a race against time, this is classic space opera from one of the new UK masters of the genre. Literally never a dull moment: 'A fast and furious spectacle developed with gusto' - "Booklist".

Another high quality novel of the polity4
Again Neal Asher's delivers. Fast paced, multi plots, rich characters. You could kind-of see it coming (no pun intended) but the ending was fated and complete. Good stuff. Great author and this one is no let down.

engrossing5
A shorter more compact work from Mr Asher but very well worth the effort. I enjoyed the narrative pace and the focus on just two individuals amongst a much larger available cast. This is an excellent treatment of interstellar war and gives more insight into just how efficient the AI's of the polity can be. And it's a bloody good read.

Could be a lot better/longer3
I like Neal Asher a lot, but lets be honest, this book is too short to have the dept of character needed for a really good book. It feels a bit like an extended shortstory. Thats why i only give this book 3 stars. It could have gotten 4 or 5 like usual N.A. books, but i refuse to give him that high a rating when he can not be bothered to write a real book. The idea is sound and the writing good but the story is left lacking in too many places due to the premature ending. Just not good enough - and too bad - because it could have been very good.
