From the Inside Flap
'Not even here in this place of ghosts and demons and half-formed things!' bellowed the wild-eyed sky pirate captain '. . . will you be safe from my vengeance!'
After many years, Turbot Smeal, treacherous quartermaster, arsonist and destroyer of the Western Quays, is back. The taverns, Leagues’ palaces and boom docks are awash with rumours. Quint Verginix, knight academic, is called away from his studies in the great floating city. Together with his best friend, Maris, he finds himself caught up in his father, Wind Jackal's, obsessive quest for vengeance against his former quartermaster.
From the sky-ship yards of Undertown to the deserted quarries of the Edge cliff, from blood-drenched bloodoak glades to the horrors of an abandoned sky-wreck, Quint, Maris and the crew of the Galerider are drawn into an increasingly deadly pursuit – a pursuit that will ultimately lead to the clash of the sky galleons.
A swashbuckling tale of adventure and revenge, set in a world of phantasmal Edge wraiths, voracious landfish and flesh-eating trees, this latest richly detailed and superbly illustrated Edge Chronicle will grip new and old readers alike.

Just one more to go
For those not familiar with the books in this fantastically imaginative series, I'd like to provide a list of the previous books before going into book nine. The series so far is divided into three trilogies, namely the Twig Saga, the Rook Saga and the Quint Saga. The series is sometimes confusing chronologically, as the events of the Quint Saga actually happen first, but the first book of this particular trilogy is actually book four in the series.
Without spoiling the series for newcomers, I'll just say that the character Twig is from the third generation, Rook is from the fifth, and Quint is from the second generation of the character chain.
Book 1: Beyond the Deepwoods- Twig
Book 2: Stormchaser - Twig
Book 3: Midnight Over Sanctaphrax- Twig
Book 4: The Curse of the Gloamglozer- Quint
Book 5: The Last of the Sky Pirates- Rook
Book 6: Vox- Rook
Book 7: Freeglader- Rook
Book 8: The Winter Knights- Quint
Book 9: Clash of the Sky Galleons - Quint
There is also a book of four short stories called "The Lost Barkscrolls", and the final book is also allegedly in progress.
This book is the last of the Quint Saga, and is a violent and bloody tale of greed, treachery and revenge. Quint and his father are Sky Pirates, in command of the sky ship The Galerider. The story takes place for the most part aboard the ship, as their adventures take them from The Edge to the Deepwoods. Many lives are lost during the skirmishes, whether fighting the weather, carnivorous Bloodoak trees, vicious Shryke warriors or various mortal enemies, making for one of the bloodiest books in the series.
Although always interesting, it tends to get carried away at times, making the story a bit longer than it should be. The battle of the title, for example, doesn't get going until way down the book, and then is over all too quickly. However, as is the case with all the books in the series, the illustrations and character names and descriptions make for a quick page-turning read.
In order to fully enjoy this book, you'll need to read at least the first two Quint books, but why deny yourself the opportunity to read them all? Highly recommended for all young readers and for bigger folk also - Now where's that movie version?

Clash of the sky galleons is a fantastic book it starts with Quint and Maris and Quint's father Wind Jackal on a basic voyage acroos the edgelands but then someone starts to send secret messages by ratbird and they all mention or lead to one person Turbot Smeal. The one time nemesis and nightmare of Wind Jackal, his son and the crew. Turbot smeal lays traps out for Wind Jackal and the rest of the crew, 3 of these traps fail one succeeds and a ferious battle occurs between Wind Jacakl and Turbot smeal. Wind Jackal loses and Turbots ferosity turns to Quint as a huge sky ship battle takes place above undertown. The leagues finally challenge the Sky Pirates but the leagues have a secret weapon and something there not telling the sky pirates. Just after the battle Turbot smeal finds Quint on his fathers sky ship the Galerider and tries to kill him but Hubble a brand new albino banderbear and new loyal character stabs the imposter with his claws. Turbot smeal had really died in the great fire of the Western Quays. His impersonater is Thaw Daggerslash a very handsome sky Pirate captain in training who's blonde hair and flashing blue eyes seem to hide it all. His ambition led him to want to take over the Galerider and fake an old nemesis.
This book is an amzing read totally for adults as well as teenagers. The images and details are exquisite
