Fantastic
This book is very detailed, and a complete analysis of the forms, and, well , craft, of songwriting. You can learn tons from this, as well as listening carefully to songs you do and don't like.
Previous reviews have noted cheesy or bad lyrics held up as good, but don't we all listen to some songs and cringe, while others absolutely love the same song ("Fog on the Tyne", anyone!).

To learn the craft, this book is fan-bloomin-tastic. To write what you consider great lyrics, well, that's up to you, not Sheila!

Sheila is terrific!
I've read about 12 books on songwriting since 1979. This bookand everything by Pat Pattison is light years ahead of everything else in my opinion. Inspired by these two and years of writing and studying, I'm now writing one myself. :-) Great book! Most people think of it as one of, if not THE best. Dave
