Customer Reviews

Armed and...1
A poor book. Anecdotal and ponderous. Few diagrams and charts. Reads more like an essay than a reference book. Only contains info on guns, nothing to do with other weapons. For an ultimate reference book on arms see: Chris McNab Twentieth century Small Arms... It is everything that this book should be.

Not really weapons, just guns...3
The subtitle "A Guide to Weapons" is misleading - Newton just discusses guns - no knives, nunchakas, tasers, anything like that - just guns. Oh, and explosives, which are tacked on the end.

That said, the discussion on guns is exhaustive, though speaking as a person with NO knowledge of guns, I could have done with a few more pictures and diagrams.

If you're looking for a good gun resource, however, it does cover likely weapons for historical fiction, terrorists and intelligence, crime, different armies in different parts of the world, and how these guns work and their particular characteristics. Definitely worth having.
