Customer Reviews
Invaluable - a must-have
This book was invaluable throughout my training - and now I am in full-time employment with a professional company I am still using it as a reference book, as are my colleagues.
The easily accessible diagrams and templates were very useful. Each chapter takes you through the production process, providing useful information on all aspects of Stage Management, from the Paperwork, through techniques to useful tips and hints.
The section on Communication Skills and Management Techniques has really helped in rehearsals, meetings and generally improved my interaction with everyone!
It should be a compulsory read and will be used by all - from beginner to professional.
A really 'essential' book for all levels of interest
As reccomended by Sir Alan Ayckbourn, this book is a step-by-step guide through the entire Stage Management process. It has a clear chronological path, which makes it easy to follow and to read. This structure helps to make it a good reference tool that you can dip into to find advice on a particular part of the process. It also features a set of templates for photocopying or reproducing to help you complete production paperwork such as rehearsal notes and a budget analysis sheet. Sections on stress management and communication skills are practical areas it covers which perhaps other similar books don't.
The font is a suitable size and cartoons break up each section. This helps with the enjoyment of reading it. I have found it to be very helpful when working through productions and when putting together the coursework for my degree course in Stage Management. This really is an 'essential' book for anyone with any level of interest in working a show from behind the scenes.
Stage Management
This is a very useful book which is excellent to have for reference. It contains very clear information on the British Production Process in relation to the work of a Stage Manager. It is also one of the most recent in it's subject field making the information very relevent and up to date. It has lots of helpful hints that I personally have used on several occasions. The book has clear diagrams and each step of the Production Process is explained in detail.
The book is very accessable and easy to read with it's clearly laid out sections, making it easy to find the information that you need quickly. There is also a glossery of Theatre terms which is also useful for reference.
All in all a good book which you will use time and time again.
