What every author needs5
The big question mark with Print On Demand publishing these days is "How on earth can I publicise my book once I have it up on Amazon?" One way to answer that question is to buy Carolyn Howard-Johnson's book and use it as a checklist of activities to promote your work personally.

This book is a very valuable list of cut-price activities that any author can carry out to put their book in public view. I have found it of great assistance in promoting my 'Virtual Trilogy' and the list of web addresses she gives have gone straight into the 'favorites' database.

Well worth the money and essential reading for POD - and offline publishers alike.

The Mount Everest of self-promotion.5
Packed full of things that need to be done and ideas about how to do them. The focus is on the Uncle Sam side of the pond, naturally, given where the author maintains her nest - but then that's exactly what a lot of authors need. Embrace the global economy (via Amazon) before the low-emission dolphins push it back into the box and you're limited to the part-time bookshop in the local village again. A lot of this will translate very successfully to the UK psyche and UK markets and a lot of the suggestions you can cheerfully implement _from_ the UK for other markets. It's a solid book and there are no seats provided for the weary to rest on - imagine someone throwing a can of "Excellent Suggestion" at you every time you turn the page. I suspect that this is a clever and deliberate ploy; you need to turn up your collar, put your head down and keep walking forward relentlessly through this book in much the same way as you need to with any self-promotion.
