Amazon.co.uk Review
The 2003 version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre adheres to the pure-and-simple slasher-movie formula: introduce a gaggle of sexy young people, make vague gestures to distinguish them--Jessica Biel wants to get married and doesn't like pot, so she's our moral compass--then start hacking them to pieces one by one. The visual palette includes grimy crucified dolls, fly-specked pig carcasses, body parts floating in murky jars, a tobacco-chewing redneck sheriff and many slender beams of sunlight cutting through dank, dusty interiors. The camera lovingly photographs Biel's tank-topped bosom and sculpted abs as she's running in terror from a bloated, chainsaw-wielding, human-skin-wearing maniac. This remake lacks the macabre comedy of the original; it's all about the nauseating sensation of waiting for something to jump out of the dark. --Bret Fetzer
Synopsis
A quiet summer drive through rural Texas ends in violent tragedy when several youths encounter a chainsaw-wielding psychopathic killer and his demented family. Tobe Hooper's gruesome tale of terror is loosely based on the Ed Gein killings, which actually occurred in Plainsfield, Wisconsin. Shot in a neo-documentary style, this incredibly influential horror film spawned numerous sequels and imitations.

Absoulety Brilliant
Amazing film but not 2 discs as the synopsis says. all the special features are there but not 2 discs. anyway. goreless film but very disturbing but very funny in places. im hoping that tcm 2, 3 and the beggiing will be as good. they won't be but oh well. anywho amazing film which is made by its absolute low budget and amatuer filmmaking style. an absolute classic.
Old, but not therefore a classic.
*Incase people haven't seen this yet, I should explain that my review will probably reveal the plot and therefore ruin the film* (even more, if possible).
This is the most disappointed I've ever been by a film. The most mediocre film in 2004-2008 would beat this film hands down, with no sign of a chain saw.
Yes, I realise that in 30 years films and graphics have progressed a great deal. And it's maybe my own fault for having such high expectations. But first and foremost, there is absolutely no tension to the film. Within half an hour half the cast are dead, and pretty much by the same method. Who is this beast? Who cares, just some hermit in a hut and that's all you need to know.
Luckily one of the girls survives long enough to drag the whole production out to be long enough to be made into a film. Thank .. no one. If they had been all killed after half an hour i'd have probably given it 3 stars purely because my boredom threshold hadn't quite been breached at that point. But luckily for her she escapes, jumps on a handy car, and the psycho does some kind of slightly strange, not at all scary dance.
If you've avoided seeing a film, or a TV, or the advancement of technology since 1974 then this is the scariest film for you! I have no doubt that this film was, at one point, considered amazing... I'm sure people thought the same over sliced bread at one point? I just accept it these days...
boring
