    Excellent for Mac users4
I'd been wanting a digital voice recorder to record my lectures, but my options were somewhat limited due to the fact that I use a Mac, and this one was unanimously recommended to me. It hasn't disappointed- the sound quality is generally very good (although the mic is ridiculously sensitive- it's much more effective on lo than hi), I love the fact that the USB plugs directly into the computer (no fiddling around with cords) and battery life seems fairly reasonable.

The only thing that's slightly annoying is the way that third party software is needed to convert the WMA files into MP3s to be played in iTunes, but such programs are easy and inexpensive to purchase, so it isn't a huge issue. A very effective, easy to use product- I'd highly recommend it.

Picked this up at an airport as I needed a digital voice recorder immediately. And the idea of an on-board USB intrigued me. The filing system is simple and easy to learn. And the recording function is fine as you can always edit audio files after they load on the computer. The microphone is adequate though I plugged in a directional mic when appropriate.
My main criticism is this -- if you're planning to take this anywhere vaguely harsh, wet or inclement DON'T. It will break. It will cease operation. It will die. It's not as hardy as I like my tech gadgets to be...I tend to put them through a lot so giving this dvr a lacklustre assessment is probably unfair. But it failed to meet my demands. Now I'm shopping for a hardier dvr.

    Not for a lawyer1
If you are used to using a dictaphone for dictation, do not get this machine. It has no insert or overwrite function and so is useless for dictation involving any thought.
