    Buy at your peril1
I own 2 of Lacie D2 Quadra and 4 other D2 drives. After 6 months 3 drives have failed. No help from Lacie support. The working units get very hot, and have now started making clanking noises now and then, and I expect them to fail soon as well. I think there is a fundamental flaw in the design. Unlikely to buy any more Lacie D2 drives. When I bought these drives, I was expecting them to last at least 3 to 4 years. Nice looking though, shame about the performance (sorry Porsche - you shouldn't team up with such a dodgy company).

    good, but not perfect4
The drive is quite good, but on occasions mine doesn't switch on first time. I tend to have to switch it off again and then back on before the power kicks in. Once its up and running its fine.

Not recommended - poor cooling - power supply fails after 8 months!1
Purchased this drive as I already have an older 115GB Lacie firewire drive which still works okay.

Re: 500GB Lacie D2 - Very disappointing - poor cooling - power supply in the box fails after 8 months! There appears to be too much extra crammed into basically the same metal box used for my much earlier drive. This product gets hotter than any other external drive I own or have known (I currently have three from different manufacturers).

Power supply circuitry fails after 8 months intermitent use. Overheated? If you want to recover the data on the hardrive you're on your own! Don't expect any help from Lacie or your money back.

Carefully remove the hardrive from the Lacie box and place it in an external hardrive casing for a SATA drive. These cost around £50.00 extra from Maplin etc. This worked for me... the Seagate drive supplied in the Lacie box is now working again!

Hardrive is made by Seagate - so why not simply buy a Seagate branded 500GB external drive? I did and guess what - it runs and looks cool as a cucumber.

Would I buy an another Lacie packaged hardrive product? No!
